Arrival of the Rimutaka at Port Chalmers.
LBt Teleoraph.l [united press association.! Port Chalmers, This Day. Tiie R.M.S. Rimutaka, nnder command of Captain Sutcliffe, her late chief offioer, arrived off Taiaroa Heads at 4.12 a.m. today, her Bteaming timo being 38 days 13 hourß 51 minutes. Tho Otago portion of her mail and passengers were transhipped to tho tug Plucky, and the steamer left again for Lyttolton at 7.30 a.m. She brings a full cargo, Cl saloon, 96 second and 142 steerage passengers for Now Zealand ports, togethor with 309 bags mails from Plymouth and two bags and four packet* from Capotown. Her passage has been a fine weather ono, she having only experienced strong N.E. gales from the 27th to the 29th inst., attended by a heavy sea. Hor best run was 348 ' milos. The passongera have enjoyod excellent health. There wero no deaths, and but one birth, Mrs. Stevens, a third-class passenger, giving birth to a daughter. Tho Rimutaka left Plymouth at 1.20 p.m. on the 20th. November, reached Madeira 6.45 a.m. 24th, left again 1.30 p.m. same day ; had light easterly wind with smooth sea. Arrived Capetown at 1.57 p.m. 9th instant, loft again 9.30 a.m. 10th. Had strong S.W. winds until 12th, thenco fine weather until 27th, when ehe encounterod a strong N.W. gale and high sea until the 29th. Hor passengers for Wellington aro i — Saloon — Mesdames J.
