The Commissioner of Lands has received a letter reporting that an alluvial goldfleld has been discovered at Wankaringa, and is expected to prove a great success. A nugget weighing ono ounce has been found on the field. Melbourne, This Day. The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report that the accounts of tho Victorian wheat crop are favourable, tho crops having been improved by rain, and it is hoped the yield will be larger than last year. As regards South Australia, the accounts are conflicting. From somo districts tho yields aro ropoi ted to bo much larger than last yoar, but in others only about an average. Sydney, 14th October. Tn tho Logislativo Assombly last night an amendment moved by Mr. Abbott on the proposed voto of censure favouring rotrenchmont and additional taxation was carried. London, 13th Octobor. Tho Pall Mall Gazetto to-day states that Lord Charles Boresford, a naval Lord of the Admiralty, has addressed a memorandum to Admiralty, severely condemning tho shortness of tho poraonnol of tho warships in commission and of thoir supplies of coal, and tho tardiness displayed in mobilizing. His Lorrtbhip asserts that no plans exibt lor a campaign, and insists that it is nocossary to oxtend tho Intelligence Dopartmhnt of the Navy, and to organise tho fleets in preparation for war.
