Destructive Fire in Invercargill.
IBy Teleqeaph.] [UNITED PBESB ASSOCIATION.] INTCBCABOHLL, ThIBDAY. The Shamrock Hotel, in Spey-street, occupied by Thos. Scully, was burned down at 4 o'clock this morning. The fire had obtained a good hold before being noticed, and the inmates had only time to escape in their night clothes — some by the fire escapes and others through the windows. One man jumped into » constable's arms. He was ■badly cut in coming through the window, •and afterwards fainted*. The Brigade wore late in reaching the spot, and the water supply deficient. The place was soon demolished, only the walls being left .standing, and these were so much damaged that they wity hare to be polled down. The origin of the firo is -unknown.
