* THE VESSEL ABANDONED TO THE UNDERWRITERS. .. [By Telegraph.] lttnitbd pbe6B association.! Tim abu, 12th June. The Harbour Board held a private meeting to consider the situation to-day. It is understood that the local agent of the company employed the Grafton to tow the Lyttelton to Boa on his own responsibility, but the Secretary to the Harbour Board was opposed to that Bteamer doing 1 the work. A rather heavy sea is running this afternoon, which prevents the diver going down to examine her. The vessel's head ib towards the S.E., and is in a favourable position to meet the sea from that quarter. The crew managed to save all their belongings, but the captain lost everything, and had only time to save the ship's papers and chronometer. 13th June. The wreck on Saturday night smashed up her deck fittiagß and burst up the deck and afterhatch. After inspection to-day, it was resolved to abandon her to the underwriters. During Saturday night the vessel drifted shorewards two ship's lengthß, and buried herself five feet. At low tide the water is level with the rails. The hull is still keep- I ing together all right, and the vessel lies head to sea, the bow pointing S.E. by S. The inquiry is to be held on Tuesday. The vessel is to be sold on that day also. DtJNKWN, 12th June. Captain Anderson, with a gang of men, proceed to Timaru by a special train this afternoon.
