TeKooti's Visit to the East Coast.

The Native Minister this morning roceivod the following telegram from To Kooti:— "Potano, 24th Deoombor, 1885. Hon. J. Ballance, Wellington.— l havo arrivod at Petane. I and my people are being troatod kindly by the Europeans and Maoris. On tho 26th we shall piooeed to Wairoa. When we arrive at Mohaka, I will lot you know. That is all from Te Tumid Te Kooti." Wo understand that, bo far as Te Kooti and his people are oonaerned, there is no fear of any breach of the peace. Tho Native Minister has informed Te Kooti that the law must be observed, and the latter has given him an assurance of his peaceable intentions and his desire to Bhow hiß loyalty to tho Government. Ho states that ho is simply making a friendly visit, and is prepared to uphold the Quwn's flag. The Government aro in no way interfering with To Kooti's movements. Thoy recognise in him a free eubjeot, who has a right to go from place to plaoe nnfetterod, bo long as he commits no broach of tho peooe, or shows no intention to do so. The polioy of the Government in the matter is simply to uphold the law, and insist upon Te Kooti doing the same. Instructions havo been given to tho Inspeotor of Polioe at Napior to take all possible precautions to preserve order ; but beyond this nothing will bo done unless the neoossity for further aotion arises.
