The Wanganui Corporation Lawsuits.
[By Tb&xqbafh.J [united pjibBs association.] Wanganui, This Dat. Three cases were brought this morning Against Borough Councillors for breaoh of the Municipal Corporations Aot. Q. Canon, of the Wanganui Chronicle, was fined .£lOO for voting while accounts due to him for advertising remained unpaid. It waß pointed out that while the English Act, from which the New Zealand Act had been copied, had been amended to exolnde newspaper advertisements the Now Zealand Aot had not been amended. Ten other oases against Mr. Carson were adjourned for a week. Tke cue against J. Murray, of Mutraj'l Foundry, the defendant pointed oat that the work oould not have boen done anwhere elso in Wanganni. He had never done any work whioh any other local tradesman could do. The oaseß against him were adjourned for a week. In the case against J. Laird, the defendant had supplied trees for the publio domains. This case also was adjourned. The amounts sued for are :— Carson, £1050 ; Murray, .£800 ; Laird, £150 ; Maneon, £350; Bell. £150. The two last mentioned have confessed judgment.
