LUMPERS' UNION. TO THE EDITOR.

SIR— In your issue of the 9th in a local, re the above?" commenting on the nonemployment of non-sooiety men, I would merely try to point out and also to corroborate my brother lumper in his lettter of to-night, in which he states we have arrived at satisfactory terms with all the shipping companies of this port, bar the Union Steamship Company, whioh, 1 may here say, have strongly opposed us in pur efforts towards unity all along (in this port especially), although they themselves try to monopolise the coastal and intercolonial trade, but do not wish us to do likewise in this matter of lamping, and of course think they are acting in a considerate manner towards us. The Union Company knowß, as well bb we can tell them, that it is only men from Pai- . kakariki and snob, like places what comprises the non-Union men they speak of as being unfairly dealt with, who are far from being experienced in the work they are engaged in when slinging cargo in a ship's hold. One thing more is this, all the experienced men in this port are Unionists, so it is an impossibility to drive them away by adopting the rnlea of which they are now trying to get in foroe, and if the Union Co. will kindly reconsider their deoision they will, I think, see the propriety of conceding *¦ to oar rales, and they will find that wo have ' not made any unjust or unreasonable de- ¦ mands — hoping they will now come to the name oonolusion as tho other shipping com- j panics. By inserting this you will greatly ob lige another lumper who wishes to see 'Justice*. Wellington, 10th July, 1885.
