TRUE TO HIS WORD.

A well-known professor of chemistry at a medical school was much annoyed by the students putting their hats on the table of the lecture theatre, and so interfering with the working of the apparatus used in the experiments, and feeling sure this was done purposely, he one day hit on a plan to stop the annoyance. Having caused a large tank of water to be brought in, he addressed the students thus — " Gentlemen, the first hat I find on my table I shall put into this tank." Now, the professor had put his own top hat on a sidetable, and when he turned to write on the blackboard, a student took it, and quickly put it on the table by the tank. The professor turned to the table and seeing the hat, at once dashed it into the water, then turning to the students, amid the most uproarious laughter and applause, said, "Time, Gmtlemen!"
