THE VOLUNTEERS.
The Wellington Rifles held thoir first competition for the medal presented by the non-commiasioned officers of the company on Saturday afternoon last, at the cadet range. Seven shots were allowed at 200 and 300 yards. The following is a list of the ton highest scorers : —
Shot and shell praotioe was engagod in at Evans Bay on Saturday by the D Battery of Artillery. The woather was favourable for good shooting, but the scores were not so creditable as some made at previous practices. The competition resulted as follow No. 2 detaohment, under Corporal Kuohen, 32 points ; No. 3, Sergeant J. Robinson, 28 ; No. 1, Sergeant Russell, 28 ; and No. 4, Sergeant C. Robinson, 18 points. Captain M'Credie and Lientcnant Lyon were present during the time the firing waa proceeding.
