The Governor at New Plymouth.

[Bt Tklkqraph.] [united pekBB association.! New Pltmouth, 27th October. The Governor arrived at noon to-day and was landed at the breakwater. There was a large number present. An address was presented to him by the Chairman of the Harbour Board ; and his Excellency, in his reply, •tated he had landed on many breakwaters, bnt never had seen such admirable arrangements as those whioh ho had just experienced. He observed that the work had a substantial appearance whioh he had not oxpeoted to see. He had no conception that it was so creditable a work. During the last thirtyone years, he might say, he had lived among breakwaters, f»a he had bean in the habit of seeing blocks made and placed in position in broftkwators, -of various descriptions, and therefore they might naturally suppose that he fully understood a work of that class. He was then driven into town, whero a large concourse of settlers from Waitara, Inglowood. and the other out-sottleinents had assembled, and was driven through two triumphal arches to the Government Buildings. Here wore assembled nearly a thonsand children, who sang " God Save the Queen." The Governor was then presented with addresses from the Borough and County Councils and Friendly Sooieties. In reply, he stated he had visited many of her Majosty's dominions, he had landed in many places in New Zealand, and had visited most of the rising centres, but in none had he reoeived a more enthusiastic weloome than he had in tho town of New Plymouth. The town was decorated in thorough holiday style, and his Excellency is evidently pleased with the plaoe.
