The King of the Belgians, speaking at Bounard, said he hoped soon to see permanent business relations established between Antwerp and Sydney, especially in regard to Australian wool. 27th October. A company is projected with a capital of a quarter of a million, to purchase and stock the Carandotta property in Queensland. Mr. Graves, at present Consul in Samoa, succeeds Mr. Annesley in Madagascar. Prince Bismarck has been severely critioised in Berlin for neglecting to acquire New Guinea for the Empire. The Spectator considers it now to be impossible for England to allow irregular expeditions such as General M'lvor s to adventure in New Guinea. The Paris Conference has reserved the question, of the protection of submarine telegraph cables as neutral in time of war, for further parleying between the Powers.
