[UNITED PBI6S ASSOCIATION.] Chbistohubch, 7th September. The Industrial Association wants the Government to grant a bonus of £250 for first 100 tons of twine, suitable for reapers and binders, made of European flax grown in the colony, and also £100 for the first 2000 gallons of oil from colonial-grown linseed. One of the Government oottages at Waimakariri Gorge was completely destroyed by fire to-day. It was occupied by Messrs. G. Bond and R. Oliver, who lose their property and £70— £19 of whioh was notes. This loss is the more unfortunate, as in the course of a day or two it would have -been paid away. The origin of the fire cannot in any way be accounted for. It is understood the cottage was uninsured. Cabtkbton, 7th September. Charles Smith, for assaulting John Spargo, resisting the polio*, and using obsoene language,, was sentenced this day to six months' imprisonment with hard labour, Besides being boumd over to keep the peace at the expiration of the sentenoe. Gbktmouth, 7th September. The oorner-stone of Trinity Churoh was laid this afternoon, according to the rites of the Masonic brotherhood, by P. M. Gordon. Bishop Harper and the ouratoß of Kumara and Reef ton present. Hawiba, This Dat. No less than 475 applications for land have been made, some of whioh are informal. The informality in most cases is caused by persons wishing to apply not having obtained the necessary declaration before a J.P. In some oases it is understood that there is a doubt whether the applicants are of statutory age, namely, above the age of 18 years. The total cash received at Hawera with the applications was £7599 2s lOd, and £625 8s at Patea, making a großß total of deposits of £8221 16s lOd. There were several sections, both rural and village settlement land, for whioh there waa no applicant. Beveral persona applied for more than one eeotion, in whioh oaae only one application will be regarded as in order. .
