THE EXCITEMENT IN IRELAND. MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT IN CUSTODY. FURTHER ARRESTS IMMINENT. TERRIBLE HURRICANE IN ENGLAND. [ REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.]
London, 14th October. Numerous meetings are being held in Ireland, at which proposals have been made by various speakers that tenants generally should refuse to pay any rent until Mr. Parnell has been released. A special Gazette has been issued by the Irish Executive today, in which " Boycotting " and coercion to join the League are proclaimed criminal acts Several further arrests of prominent agitators have been made. Among those now in custody are Mr. Arthur O'Connor, member of the House of Commons for Queen's County; Mr. J. O'Kelly, member for Roscommon ; Mr. T. Sexton, M.P. for Sligo; and Mr. Qainn, the Secretary of the Land League. A warrant has also been issued for the arrest of Mr. Healy, M.P. for Wexford, and other arrests are known to be imminent. A very seve-e hurricane has been experienced on the English coast, causing numerous wrecks and immense damage to shipping and seaport towns. Several lives have been lost through the disasters which have occurred. Washington, 14th October. At a meeting of the Senate to-day, Mr. Davis, a neutral member, was elected Presij dent in the place of Mr. Bayard, a Democrat, who was recently elected temporarily to that position.
