The Stormbird arrived at 230 p m. yesterday from Wellington. She returns this afternoon. Nelson, nth October. Arrived, no»n— Pengain, from Picton.
The sb. Ringßjrooma left Sandridge »t 2.40 p.m on the 4th, and arrived at Hobart at 8 a.m. on the Gtn ; sailed at 6p m. and reached the Bluff at 545 a.m. ontheiuth; sailed at 5 p.m., called at Port Chalmers on the llth, Lyttelton 13th, and arrived here at 11 30 this morning. She leaves for Auckland via East Coast this afternoon. Tbe s s. Waitaki left Manukau at noon on the llth inst., and arrived at Taranaki at daylight on th» 12th ; left again at 9a m. for Nelson, arriving there at 11 <IS p m. ; Bailed again at 11 yesterday morning, and arrived at Picton at 7.30 p.m.; left at 2 thin morning and arrived here at 7.15. She sailed for Lyttelton this afternoon. The Government steamer Stella arrived here early this morning from Gore Bay. The p.H. Charles Edward arrived from the West Coast, Nelson and Pioton, at 4 30 p.m. yesterday. Sue returns this evening. The s s. Huia arrived in harbour at 1 o'olock this afternoon, 12 hours from Wanganui. She returns to-morrow. The steamers Napier for Blenheim, and GoAhead for Castlepoint and Napier, sailed last night. The as. Wakatipu arrives from the South tomorrow morning, and leaves ia the afternoon for Sydney. Tha Hauraki, having been converted into a Mrew steamer, is now ready for sea. She ia advertised to sail for Waiiganui, Opunaki and Wuitara to-morrow. We hope her owners, Captain Harvey and Mr. Greenfield, will meet with the success which their enterprise deserves. Had there been a few more of their stamp in Wellington, we might now boast of a fleet of steamers unequalled in the colonies. The Himeuaoa takes a. detachment of 100 A.C.'f to Opunake to-night or to-morrow. W« learn that Mr. O. Pope, mate of the steamer Huia, will be appointed captain of the ss. Tui, vice Ouptain Wills, resigned. Mr. Pope is a favorite with the travelling public and a thorough seaman. +
