THE FERRET FRAUDS. DISCOVERY OF ANOTHER GOLDFIELD IN N.S.W. (united pkess association. l Melbourne, 27th July. The trial of Henderson, Wright, and Wallace, for the Ferret frauds, concluded on the 2Xst, when the prisoners were acquitted of the charge of defrauding the Highland Railway Company, but convicted of defrauding intending purchasers and attempting to deceive the Commissioner of Customs. Mr. Jnistice Williams occupied two hours in summing np, and the jury took over an hour to deliberate on tho verdict. On beiDg brought up for sentence, Henderson made a clever speech, denying all complicity in the attempt to sell, and maintaining that the ship was hired to run the blockade for the Peruvian Government. An application was made that the .£6O) found with Mrs. Henderson be restored to her. The Judge took time to consider the matter, and yesterday gave orders to hand the money over. |It is doubtful, however, whether Mrs. Henderson can retain the funds, as the sheriff's officers are about to claim it under a judgment against Henderson. Brisbane, 27ih July. The three children in South Brisbane found suffering from a mild attack of smallpox, have beeu placed aboard the floating hospital in the river.
