New Plymouth, 29th July. A preliminary enquiry into the wreck of the p.s. Samson was held at Waitara to-day. The evidenco taken was to the effect that the Samson arrived off Waitara bar at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and, without waiting signals, the captain took the steamer over the bar. A short time afterwards the Samson grounded, and the force of the current doffn the river gradually slewed her broadside on to the south Bpit, near tho wreck of the Paterson. She contiaaed drifting towards the wreok of the Paterson, and eventually came upon it, knocking a hole in hor plates, and rendering her a total wreck. The Bamaon was 27 years old.
