SLIPS ON THE RAILWAY.

? TRAFFIC INTERRUPTED. Tho continued torrents of rain which have fallen during the last week have caused some heavy Blips on the Wellington-Master-ton Railway. The chief slips have taken place on the Rimutaka Incline, near one of the smaller tunnels, where the line is stated to bo completely blocked up to such a depth that it will probably take two or three days to clear tho road. Tho trains to and from Masterton this morning wore both Btopped by the obstruction on the line, and had to exchange passengers and freight, the former climbing over tho fallen debris, and tho latter being carried over from one train to the other. A telegram was sent to the Gonoral and District Managers, Messrs. Maxwell and Ashoroft, and both started for the scene of the blockade by the 11.10 a.m. train to Upper Hutt, proceeding thence by special engine. No information has yet been ieceived from them as to the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, the passengers from Wairarapa having been transhiped into the Wellington train, reached town a few minutes past 1 o'clock this afternoon, three-quartors-of-an-hour late, a" special " having jieen sent on from the | Hutt at the regular time to avoid inconveniencing the suburban traffic. Tho passengers by the 3.30 pm. out-tnin this afternoon will have to change trains when they reach the locality of the obstruction.
