THE FATAL OCCURRENCE AT A RIFLE GALLERY. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] THAMES, 5th July.
An inquest was held this afternoon on the I jody of a boy named Buckley, who was shot '
t a rifle gallery a few days ago, and who ied this morning. The affair has caused a reat Bensation here, and the owner of tho ;allery waa severely censured in the matter. ?ho boy was looking on at the firing, when h^ proprietor — a colored man, na"ned "lementa— playfully pointed tho gun— an American pea-rifle at him, and tho hammer if tho weapon being defective, it went off, hooting the boy in the left breast. The )lood immedia'r'v spurted out, and tho little ellow waa con\ >jed to tho hospital. Several attempts were made to extract the bullot, vhich waa only tho fize of a pea, but without incoess. The post mortem examination rerealed the fact that it had passed through ;he left lung, and the doctors think that it odged in the muscles of the baok. The general impression hero was that the owner jf the gallery would be held responsible for the boy's life, but the jury returned a verdiot sf " Accidental deatb," with a rider deprecabing the use of such weapons in publio places. Public feeling on tha matter runs very high, and probably somothing moro will be heard of the affair shortly.
