THE LICENSING COURT. This Day.
Tho adjourned annual meeting of the Licensing Commissioners for the Wellington district took place at noon to-day, when thero were present — Messrs. E. Shaw, R.M. (chairman), J. G. Holdsworth, and J. Moore. After twenty minntes' consultation in private, the Bench announced their decisions with regard to tho various applications that came before the Court a fortnight ago. Kespecting the application of Mrs. Kate Hannay for a license for the Railway Hotel, Tnorndon Quay, the Court further postponed their decision tor a week. With regard to the application by Mr. C. H. Compton for a license for an hotel, which it was proposed to build at Island Bay, the chairman said that, without expressing an opinion one way or the other, the Bench felt compelled to refuse tho application, especially as in face of the proposed changes in the licensing laws, they might be unable to grant the license on the completion of the building. As to Mr. J. Infield's application for a license for the Cosmopolitan Club Hotel, tha Bench had considered all that had again been urged in ftwor of the application, which they again made up their minds not to grant. Several renewals having been adjudicated upon, the Court again adjourned.
