it is pleasing to note that lately the prospects of the Industrial Exhibition to be held at the Athensaum, have brightened considerably. _We are informed that the number of applications for space has almost been doubled within the last two days, and they are now coming in fast. His Excellency the Governor, with his usual courtesy, has consented to perform the opening ceremony", which will take place on Monday, the 23rd instant, at 3 p.m. The various advertisements, which aopear elsewhere, afford a good deal of information as to the arrangements. We understand that it is intended to make use of all the rooms on the first and second floors of tho Athenaeum building, which it is expected will furnish the space required ; if necessary, however, the upper floor will be used. During the exhibition, which will last the | entire week, the ieading-room will be removed to the Chamber of Commerce. The present arrangements of the institution will not be disturbed until Thursday afternoon next, when the process of clearing 1 out and fitting up will be commenced. The art department of the exhibition, which is to | be the only competitive part of it, is attracting a very large number of entries, and the judging will be a work of responsibility. Two extra prize 3 have been presented for award in this competition. The first is a copy of the Art Journal for 1880, value £2 2*, and the second is "The Makers of Florence," .value £1 10s.
