THE HARBOR BOARD.

A meeting of ifoarvl wtes hdd shortly after 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and we* attended by Messrs. W. H. Levin, M.H.K; (Chairman), Nathan, Krull, Coffey, Poarce*, Jackson, Lancaster, and Captain Roso. The Chairman reported that a bill relating to the purchase of the Queen's Wharf had been drafted, and its provisions hod been duly considered in committee. With one or two unimportant exceptions, the bill met with the approval of the committee, and it now only remained for the bill to bo finally submitted to tho City Solicitor. Mr. Jackson stated that ho had interviewed Mr. Maxwell, of the Railway Department, relative to tho charges in connection with the Railway Wharf, and had succeeded in getting those charges reduoed to tho lowest possible limits. A communication was received from the Government, in reply to a letter written by the Board, to the effect that they had no officer to report on the damago dono by silting up along the breastwork. The City Engineer wrote asking the Board to grant permission to Mr. John Shields to obtain gravel frem Evans' Bay, as he was fulfilling a contract with the City Counoil, whidh would be interfered with if snoh leave were revoked; and a resident of Oriental Bay also wrote, directing attention to the manner in which sand was being carted away from that locality- It was resolved to invite the City Engineer, Cotlnty Engineer, and Harbormaster to enquire into tbe matter, and report to the Board. The Wool* hod Committeo, appointed on the 23rd February, submitted a report, in which they expressed their opinion, that in view of Bundry works that will bo required in the course of a short time, it would bo advisable that the Board should appoint a competent architoot and engineer, to oarry out any works the Board may undertake ; and they recommended that applications be invited, by advertisement, from persons willing to acoept the appointment, and that the person seleoted should, in the meantime, receive merely a retaining fee per annum, and a commission on all work performed by him. The Committee also recommended that the plans and specifications of woolpressing machinery, submitted by Mort's Dock and Engineering Company, Sydngy, be accepted, and the order forwarded for the same, with the exception of the boiler, .Whioh they considered could be made equally well lonalljr, and recommended that tenders bo called for that part of tho work in Wellington. The Board wont into committee to consider this report, which, after considerable discussion, was adopted in its entirety.
