GREAT FIRE NEAR AUCKLAND
DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £20,000. [united pbeBs association.] Auckland, This Day. Ireland Brothers' Panmure Tannery, tho largest and most extensive in New Zealand, was totally destroyed by fire this morning. When it was discovered, the flamos had a firm hold of the buildings, and nothing could be done to save them or the goods Btorod in them. Nothing is known regarding the origin of the fire. The total loss is estimated at .£20,000. Tho insurances, so far, are unknown. Among the property destroyed were (3000 sides of leather, 18 bales of basils, GOO calves' skins, 3600 hides, 300 tons of bark, and 3600 gallons of cod-oil. The tannery, whioh did a largo business, gave employment to 80 men. LO6BKS OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES. Tho Now Zealand offico had a policy »f £7600 on Ireland's tannery, but most of it was reinsurod. Following ore the approximate loßses of the various companies involved .- — New Zealand, ,£3300 ; Union, £700; Standard, £350; National, £350; Transatlantic, £800; Victoria, £320; North British, £700.
