«, I UNITED FBESS ASSOCIATION. I Dunedin, 22nd March. The volunteer demonstration at Queenstown has been abandoned, owing to the refusal of the Dunedin corps to take part. After the Executive Council meeting tonight the Hon. Mr. Oliver leaves for the North, the Premier returning with the Governor to-morrow. The Governor left Quaenstown this morning and reached Dunedin at half-past five o'clock. He will attend the Caledonian Sports to-morrow. This Day. Fully 4000 persons are present at the Caledonian sports Being held in honor of tho Governor. The weather is glorious. A deputation of volunteer officers waited on the Premier, and brought under his notice the injustice done to the corps by the sudden stoppage of the capitation allowance. Reynolds and Herr Bandmann have settled their qußrrel by aareeing to separate after Monday. The former has organised a com. pnnv, which opens at Wellington on the Ist April, playing a series of his own plays. Bandtnann, with his old company, will probably proceed to VVangauui. Keynolds having the sole right to play the juvenile "Pinafore" in New Zealand, in* tends to prevent Cary from playing it at the Theatre Koyal, Wellington, on Friday next. WANQANtrr, This Dat. The extension of the railway line from Waitotara to Waverley was opened yesterday. A public banquet was held in the afternoon, at which Messrs. Bryce and Ballance, members for tho district, were present. Strong opinions in favour of the line being continued northward were expressed by all the speakers.
