CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

In yesterday's issue we published a pricis of the report of the committee of the Chamber of Commerce, the annual meeting of which woa being held when we went to press. The Chairman (Mr. Jonas Woodward), in moving the adoption of the report, referred briefly to the principal items contained therein. He said the report wa» rather a statement of the efforts mode by the Chamber and committee than of results, but it was hoped that those efforts would in time be productive of good. With regard to the bankruptcy law, everything had been done by the committee that could be.done, and it might be hoped— though the hope had been delayed till it had almost become heartBickening— that something would be done. The Government had promised to compile a bill from the various suggestions received, but as these were as divergent as it was possible to conceive, it was difficult to ccc how any Act based upon them could be made workable. He felt sure that until one Judge waß appointed solely to attend to thii, no alteration in the Statute wouid be satisfactorily administered. He regretted to say that the Chamber's appeal to the wool-growers to send exhibits to the coming wool exhibition at London had met with no response. With regard to the " Cental " question, he expressed pleasure that Victoria was taking it up, and hoped it would be extended to all the colonies. Having referred in eulogistic terms to the late Mr. George Hunter, the Chairman concluded by moving the adoption of the report, which was agreed to without discus-ion. The balance-sheet showed a credit balanca of .£B4 3s 2d. Mr. J. E. Nathan was nnani-
