The weather has been beautiful all day, and the attendance of visitors during the afternoon very large. Great interest wai shown in the concluding shots of each championship, but excellent order was main tamed. Paynter has fired most steadily during the match, and his victory is decidedly popular. He was champion in 1877. The closing sceno of the carbine champion* ship was very exciting. M'Lean, of Wanganui, was loudly oheered when he made 39 out of a possible 40 at the 400 yards, thus tying the winner, Armstrong ; but he had to take second honors, as Armstrong was the highest in match No. 7. Tenth Match, 200 and 400 yards, 10 ihots each.— The following were the prize-takers, in order:— M'Lean (Wanganui), 76; Thompson (Port Chalmers*), Tandy (Wellington), Levers (Wellington), Laird (Wanganui), each 73; Gordon (Thames), Lumsden (Auckland), each 72 ; Davy (Wellington), D. Thurston (Wanganui), Armstrong (Thames), each 71 Wilkinson (Dunedin), Thomas (Thames), C. France (Wellington), Perry (Wanganui), each 70. The following made 69 — Sergeant Wimsett, F. Franco, Smith (Nelson), A. Dixon. Civilian Match, 200 and 300 yards, 7 shots each. — The following are the prize-takers in order:— Bell, 48 ; Hunter and Robson, each 44 ; M'Rae, 41 -all of Nelson; Gillon, 38. Carbine aggregate prize • takers. — Armstrong (lhamor), Champion, 273; M'Lean (Wanganui), 273; F. France (Wellington), 271 ; H. Dixon (Wellington), 267. South Carbine Match will probably fall through, as there are only ten Southern men here. The South will win the Rifle Match. Iv the rifle aggregates, Okey, the exChampion, only made 247. The Wellington men scored thus in the ninth mateh :— Lieut, Ballinger, 69; Baa-
hister, 68 ; Bergt. Ballinger, 61 ; Burr, 61 ; A. Ballinger, 64; Hale, 58; Henn, 61; Howo, 59 ; Randall, 66 ; Ross, 60 ; Shaw, 62 ; Tait, 67. In tho last carbine match their scores were :— Armstrong, 59 ; Bennett, 68 ; A. Dixon, 69; Davy, 71; H. Dixon, 68; C. Franco, 70 ; F. France, 69 ; Ingle, 66 ; Levers, 73 ; M'Kenzie, 66 ; M'Credie, 68 ; Tandy, 73 ; Taylor, 59. F. France fired well to the finish, but tho shooting was too hot for him. This Day. Paynter took a prize in every match for tho Championship. The Otago men fired splendidly in the Ladies' Match, Harding making 78 and Wobster 77 out of a possible 84. Shaw (Wellington) was seventh, scoring 72. At 200 yards the highest possible was made by Purnell (Wanganui) and Wratt (Waimea). and at 300 yards by Harding. The lowest prize was taken with 70 points. Okey, the ex-champion, to-day secured his first prize. In the rifle match, North v. South, the South Island representatives scored 645, and tho North Island men 631. Paynter (Stoke) winß the cup with a score of 72. Burr's score of 69 is the highest among the North Island competitors.
