H. A. M. Watson. At the bioycle races in Hagley Park to-day over 2000 people were present. In the ten miles' race Dalton, of Christohuroh, was first, and Norris, of Christohuroh, second ; time, 89mins. 2secß. Quick, the English champion, from whom much was expected, was handicapped out of everything. The five mile running match between Fagan, of Auckland, and Mellverton, of Christchuroh, for jESO a-side, was won by Fagan ; time, 29mins. 51secs. This Dat. The Governor has aocopted an invitation to open tho Ashburton Industrial Exhibition. Auckland, sth Maroh. The young man, Henry Edwards, who threatened to burn down the offices of the Union Sash and Door Company, has been sent to the Lnnatio Asylnm. The Otahuhu District School Committee decided to establish a Penny Savings' Bank, but the Education Board has refused permission. In the third heat in the yacht contest, Madge beat Observer by one minute, and wins the stakes. The Purchaa enquiry, re Auckland College, is proceeding. Mr. J. E. Pounds, manager of the Union Bank of Australia, gave evidence unfavorable to Mr. Macrae, the head master. Invercabqill, This Day. The Southland branch of tho Irish Land League numbers over a hundred membero. At the meeting on Saturday it was deoided to invite Mr. Robert Stout to visit Invorcargill and deliver a lecture on the Land question. Wangantji, This Dat. The sale of stock on Owen and Lethbridge's Ruatangata Run, concluded on Saturday, having lasted four days. The amount realised will probably bo about .£15,000. There was good competition for all classes of stock. Dunedin, This Day. A fivo-roomed cottage at Mansford Bay, owned and occupied by Mr. John Pearoo, was burned down on Saturday night, and an adjoining cottage waa pulled down to prevent the fire from spreading. The insurance amounts to £450, in the Colonial. New Plymouth, This Dat. To-day ia observed as a general holiday, on the occasion of the Waitara regatta. A ship was signalled off Cape Egmont last night. She is supposed to be the Adamant, with the harbor plant on board.
