KILBIRNIE HIGHWAY BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Kilbirnie Highway Board was held at the Tramway Hotel on Saturday afternoon. Present — Messrs. Hendry (chairman), Mace, Agate, M'Cleland, Compton, and Finch. The chairman called attention to the fact that any ratepayers might appeal against any separate rate, provided their property was not benefited thereby. A letter was read from the Colonial Treasurer's Department, Btating that the subsidy in respect of the rates collected by the old Karori-Makara Board could not be paid until the Governor had made the award under " The Wellington Highways Act, 1874," dividing 1 the assets and liabilities between the two new districts, and the treasurer was advised of the amount of the subsidy payable in accordance with the award of the Kilbirnie Highway Board. It was decided that a deputation should wait on Mr. Dick on the subject of the letter. The collector was authorised to take proceedings against all defaulters for rates due previous to the 20th July, 1880. Accounts amounting to .£6B 18s 6d were passed for payment. The following tenders were accepted : — Forming 40 chains Pilot Station road, E. Lyon, .£67; Kilbirnie road and culvert, R. Lyon, .£3l 10s ; Haughton Bay extension, R. Lyon, .£75 ; Polhill Gully road and culvert, Foster and Co., £19 0a 6d (accepted conditionally). The Board then adjourned.
