FIRE BRIGADE CONFERENCE.
The annual conference of tho New Zealand Fire Brigade Association opened this morning in the Fire Brigade Hall, Manners-street. The following delegates from othor towns were present : — Christchurch — Superintendent Harris (President of the Association), Foreman Hobbs, Firemen Sturroch and Hobbs ; Dunedin — Capt. Morrah, R. Robertsou (Secretary of A 83ociation) ; Wanganui — Captain Cummins, Fireman Bush ; Nelson — Captain Lightfoot; Timaru — Fire Inspector J. Jackson; Naseby— Lieutenant Webber; Invercargill— Lieutenant Ronnie; Lyttelton — Superintendent Sowden ; Rangiora — Superintendent Gulliver; Napier — Firemen Robson and Waterworth ; Spit— Superintendent Wilkie ; Port Chalmers - Captain Dale ; Masterton — Messrs. Girdlestone and Brown ; Waimate — Captain binclair ; Mornington — Lieutenant Dickenson; Ashburton — Lieut. Dolman ; Caversham — Captain Blagdon. On the conference being opened, the chair was occupied by Superintendent Harris, President of the Association. Some little discussion took place relative to allowing the Wellington Brigade to take part in the conference. Some members were of opinion that they should not be admitted, on the ground that they were under the Municipal by-laws. It was ultimately resolved that they be admitted. The second annual report of the Association was read. It contained a number of suggestions to bo considered by the conference, and was agreed to without discussion. Superintendent Harris vaa reelected president, and Superintendent Whiteford and Captain Lightfoot were elected vice-presidents. Mr. K. Robertson was reelected secretary. A committee, consisting of Superintendent Sowden, Captain Murphy, Captain Sinclair, Captain Dale, Foreman Hobbs, and Secretary Robertson, was appointed to enquire into the advisability of establishing a sick and accident fund, and to report to-niorrow.
