DRUNKENNESS. Thoma3 Muir and John Murphy, charged with this offence, were fined 5s each, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. NEGLECTED BOT. Alexander Reid, aged 12, was brought up on a charge of being a neglected child within the meaning of the Neglected Criminal Children's Act. The lad's mother, it appears, forsook her husband and family about three years ago, and has not since been heard of. The father was described as being a drunken loafer, who disappeared from Wellington last week. Latterly, young Reid has been loft to his own devices, and falling in the hands of low characters, bade fair to become acquainted with a gaol career. His brother, aged 18, attended the Court to explain that there was nobody to look after and care for the boy, who was remanded till Tuesday next, in order that in the meantime he might be medically examined so as to ascertain whether he is fit to be educated for the Bea. If so, he will in all probability be sent to the Naval Training School at Auckland. CIVIL CASES. Fisher and Crook v. Garton. — Claim, £2 Bs, for wood supplied. Mr. Hutchison appeared for the defendant. The wood, it appeared, was supplied to a man named Kay, over whose goods Garton had a bill of Bale. The plaintiffs stated that Garton guaranteed to pay for the wood, but this was denied by the defendant, and there being no agreement in writing, his Worship had no alternative but to nonsuit the plaintiffs, wi-h costs, adding that the plaintiffs had been badly advised in bringing the action. Bettelani v. Murray, Roberts and Co.— Mr. Gul'y for the plaintiff ; Mr. Brandon for the defendants. This was an action to recover £60 damages for breach of contract in connection with the purchase of paws shells. Judgment was given for £20 se, The Court then rose.
