MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.
Mr. George Jones, fanner, of Kaitoke held a meeting of his creditors at the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon. The debtor had assigned his estate to Mr. George Besley, on behalf of the creditors. The liabilities amount to J6664 7s 6d and the assets to .£1250, 7s Id. The former include a debt of £4fi2 10s (secured) to Mr. Knapp, and the latter comprise — House and land at Kaitoke (mortgaged), ; house and section, Courtenay Place (mortgaged), .£300 ; book debts, ¦£60 ; furniture, J>2o ; farm, stock, and implements, 7s Id; hind at Nelson, .£2O. The debtor offered to pay 15s in the £ within six months, and the balance in twelve months. One of the creditors— Mr. Woods — suggested that Mr. Jones should be compelled to file. The hitter remarked that had it not been for Mr. Woods pressing him he would not have been in his present position, as, with a little leniency, he could have carried on and paid all his debts These observations gave rise to a kind of " scene " between Mr. Woods and the debtor. After some discussion, it was resolved that Mr. T. J. Ladd be appointed assignee, and that the periods for the fulfilment of the debtor's offer referred to above be three and six months in lieu of six and twelve. A meeting of the creditors of Henry Vincent Duck, to consider his application for discharge, was convened yesterday, at the office of the trustee — Mr. Carroll — but no creditors attended. A meeting of the creditors of Ellas Cohen, hotel-keeper, Carterton, was held at the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon. The debtor's liabilities are set down at £2252 10s, and assets £2777 7b Bd. With the exception of £120 2s, consisting of book-debts, the assets are secured to Messrs. Staples and Cheymol. Mr. T. J. Ladd having been elected creditors' trustee, the meeting terminated.
