HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

+ The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held to-day at the offices of the Board, Lambton Quay. Prosent—Councillors Lancaster (chairman), Maaon, Taylor, Chew, Smith, Speedy, Dick, Monaghan, and Morgan. ' Councillor Mason proposed, and Councillor Speedy seconded, that the valuation of the several ridings of the Hutt County, as laid before the Council, be accepted, and that the list be opened for inspection at convenient places in each riding. A deputation from the Kilbirnie Highway Board waited on the Council to ask if they would take over any contract they entered into for the formation of Evans Bay road. The Council decided to decline to ratify any contract extending beyond the 31st March next. The Engineer reported that he had prepared a plan of the new bridge at Pahautanui, and estimated the cost of construction at .£175. The Council decided to have tenders called for by next meeting. It waß reaolved to vote a farther sum of JBIO to be expended on the Tera whiti goldfields' track. Councillor Mason moved, that the sum of .£IOO, voted for a floating dam at the Hutt Bridge, be appropriated for the erection of a new one, subject to the amount being supplemented by a grant of £50 from the Hutt Conservators Board, and that tenders be called by the Engineer before the next meeting of the Council. Councillor Dick seconded the motion, which was carried. Councillor Smith moved that the Engineer be instructed to lay off the road between the foot of Paikakariki and Waikanae. The Engineer said he had no power to lay off a road through native land. The Government would have to give that authority first. Councillor Smith added to his motion, that the Engineer take the necessary steps to get the legal authority from the Government. The motion was then carried. Tenders were opened for continuation of Moonshine bridle track, and the tender of Mr. George Pearce, at 13s 5d per chain, was accepted. Tho accounts for the month showed a total expenditure of .£894 15s Id. Councillor Taylor gave notice of motion for next meeting as follows :—": — " That the north-west road from Ngahauranga to Paikakariki be repaired by contract for three years; that it be let in short lengths of about three to five miles, the repairing of all bridges and culverts to be included, but no bridges of over 20ft span to be rebuilt by the contractor ; and that a committee be appointed to assist the Engineer in defining the boundaries and in getting out specifications." This concluded the business.
