The steamer Kent has arrived from England. The Union Company's steamer Albion has sailed for New Zealand. Mr. Zox, a Conservative, has been elected for East Melbourne, by the large majority of 797 votes over his opponent. An excellent observation of the conjunction of Mars and Saturn has been obtained. The Merchant Shipping Underwriters' Association report under date London, 27th June — Arrived : Adamant, from Napier ; and Florence, from Lyttelton. This Day. The expected revenue shows a large falling off as compared with the Estimates. There is a deficiency of at least £200,000. The Age, the Government organ, anticipates that the amount will be £360,000. At least £350,000 to £400,000 will be necessary to meet the deficiency. ' Btdnbt, This Day. Arrived, yesterday— Tararua, from Auckland. The health of Chief Justice Sir James Martin is much better. It is unlikely that he will resign. In the Legislative Council the Land Amendment Act has been read a second time.
