NOMINATION OF CA.NDIDATEB. [FROM OUR SPHCIAIc CORRESPOND HNT.f [HX TEJiBGKAPH.] .;•' ;• Lowafc Hutt, This Day. The nomination for the Hott took place to- , dftTj-at noon.tt tho Odd Fellows' Hall. Thirty persons' were present Mr. Nathaniel Valentine proposed, and W&r. R. Clbland seconded, Mr. Henry JackSon a -fit and proper person to represent tho Hutt.Mr. William Milvb proposed, and Mr. Q&vid Spbbdt seconded, Mr. Thomas Mason. Mr. Jackson »aid his speech would be brief. He would endeavor to reduce the burden of taxation on the poorer, and impose it more fairly on the richer, classes. He would ondeavor to secure a further loan, in order to carry out tho public works. By so doing the Native Difficulty would be settled. He would take care, however, that the money should bo spent only on reproductive works. He was in favor or trienoial Parliaments and manhood suffrage. He would advocate the settlement of Crown lands on the deferred payment system, the conferring ol borrowing powers on local bodies., and fostering local industrial. He opposed the introduction of Chinese. In reply to a question, Mr. Jacksok said he never opposed the toll being taken off tho Hutt bridge. Mr Mason said he had not adopted Mr. Jackson's poiiey because be had always held the same opinions as those which he now propounded. He thought that property ought to bear its share of public burdins, but he objected to the present mode of collection. He then recapitulated the remarks made by him at his meetings, and -promised, if elected, to do bis duty faithfully. In the present time of depression he thought that immigration should be restricted. Tbe Keturaing Officer called for a show of bands, xvhl6h was declared bo he la favor of Air. Jacteon— twenty voting for Jackson, and " nine for Mason. A poll having beep demanded on behalf of Mr-Mason, a vote of thanks to the Returning Of&fsr closed the proceedings.
