THE CASE OF CORBETT v. ADAMS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST.

Sir— My attention being drawn to two letters in your paper of the 26th June, in reference to the case of Corbett v. Adams, I should feel obliged by your inserting the following particulars in your valuable paper, in vindication of my character and that of my family from the slanderous and false statements therein set forth :— ln the first place I utterly deny that the dog was Corbott's, and I havo witnesses to prove that they heard him state positively that the dog was not his. Whon asked ia Court where he got it from he was completely baffled, and unable to give any satisfactory reply. Notwithstanding the above, I have also proof to show that Corbett wont so far as to offer the dog for sale. My daughter was only actuated by love of honesty, and the whole affair was done above board to have the animal returned to its rightful owner. I also wish to state that many of my lodg»rs have been greatly alarmed and surprised at the quarrelsome and eccentric behaviour of Corbett. Mr. Squires also contradicts tbosta.ament that he had promised to come forward for Corbett, so that the whole ease had not a shadow of evidence to support it. The Justices of the Peace who tried the case saw very clearly through the whole affair, and dismissed the caie, after very little consultation, with costs against Corbett. I should have have let the case alone where their Worships left it only for the publicity his letters have caused. I am, &c, William Adams. Wellington, 27th June.
