MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.
A meeting of the creditors of W. F. Mason, blacksmith, took place this morning. The trustee, Mr. Ellaby, in the chair. The trustee stated that Mr. Mason htd handed over his books and papers, nil carefully docketed and filed. ' As far as lie could see at a superficial glance tbe assets would be nil, but it rested with the creditors to determine whether it was wdrth while to iccur fxtra expense in employing^n accountant to wade through tbe papers. It VT*S also doubted w&etber Messrs. Logan and Capper were justified in seizing- under a bill -of- sale in Mouutain's estate. Dr. Buller't, clerk was engaged in searching into the legality of the action. Mr. Mason, in reply to the chairman, said tbat his father's property was settled upon his children, but tbey would receive no benefit from it until they came of age. The trustees received the moneys. He had never backed Mr. Mountain's bill for £1000. Mr. Ellaby said that he desired to resign his position as trustee. Dr. Buller said that he must act in accordance with section 52 of the Act, and get one of the creditors to request the Registrar to call afresh meeting of creditors for the purpose of appointing a fresh trustee. Mr. Hughes stigmatised meetings of creditors as perfect shams and farces, and spoke warmly on the abstract principles of bankruptcies and their moral tendencies. Tbe meeting then terminated, several oi the creditors expressing their determination not to incur fresh expenses.
