[PER PRESS AGENCY.] Auckland, Bth May.

The Star this evening has the following-.— The above telegram (a copy of that sent to us) proves our statement that tbe ite v waspubiished either in an Australian journal or in an extra. . With the indulgence of our readers we shall now briefly recapitulate tbe ''points brought out by tbe controversy, and shall then drop tbe subject in these columns, for other and more effectual modes of punishing the slanderers. We bate,

proved :—l.: — 1. That in conjunction with New Zealand and Australian papers, we established a cosily special cable service. 2. That finding tho fruits of this enterprise used in snch a way as to deprive us of the benefit, we reproved the spoilers. 3 TL« rablelegratns were then attacked as " bogus," and we were vilified a« the manufacturers of them. 4. When the excellence of tho messages made their reputation, arrangements were carried out by a number of papers for filching them in New Zealand and Australia without acknowledgment, and using them as London mrmigca from " own correspondents." 5. That when charged with this they strenuously denied it. 6. That tbe Vogel hoax forced them to eat their own denials, and the cablegrams have since been acknowledged as simply taken from our Australian partners in the service. 7. That to excuse the former practice it was asserted by the Herald that it pa?d more for cablegrams than we did. But when cballenged^to the proof by & very simple test tber.e was no response. So far, judgment may be left to tbe public, as to private wrongs the law provides a i remedy.
