The owners of the immigrant ship Hereford have been fined £500 for a breach of the charter party regarding water supply. Montgomery has been committed for trial for the late jewellery robberies at Government House. At Chiniquy's lecture at Mudgee an alarm of fire was raised, when a stampede ensued. It was, however, a hoax. There were no casualties. Augustus Morris has accepted the Secretaryship of the Exhibition. The new steam launch Lillie Denham, valued at £1800, was burned this morning. Melbourne, 16th December. George Martin and Co. have failed. It is stated their liabilities are largo, principally English creditors. Bush fires are raging in Gippsland. A railway station was destroyed. One hundred and sixty Chinese have landod at Port Darwin from Hong Kong.
