The Caledonian Society's talc'ngs at the gates on the first day of the sports amounted to £450; on the second day the nett receipts were £346. The grow takings are expected to be over £1000. Fully 5000 persons travelled on the Danedin railways on New Tear's Day. 'Hie entire hone Bonnie Scotland,, imported by Hr. James Walls, of Canterbury, by the ship Norval, died six weeks after the vessel left London. The body of a Chinaman has been found in a creek at Allan's Gully, near Wakaia. He is supposed to have been murdered by some of his fellow-countrymen-Henry Lyon Metz was to-day committed for trial on two charges of forgery. Mr. Ward has reeled the regfatrarehip of the Supreme Court nnd the oflce of Sheriff. No successor has yet been appointed. Hr. Leary was returned unopjMaed for High Ward.
