RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before Mr. Mausford, R.M ) DRUNKENNESS. Frederick Jones was charged, on remand, with being" drunk. Constable Willoughby gave further evidence in support of the charge. Defendant now stated that, when he was locked up ia the Te Aro station, he kicked at the do jr of tho cell and said, " Let mo out, or tell me what I am charged with." Coistab'e Timothy Carroll then came to the door and said, " By , if you don't stop your row, I'll break every — bone iv your body." His Worship said that if the defendant had any charge to make against the police, he could bring it forward in the regular manner. He fined him os, or twenty-four hours' imprisonment. THE SUSPICIOUS FIItE IN INGESTRESTRBET. Edward Henry M'Elwain was charged, on remand, with setting fire to a dwelling house occupied by Mary Anne Brighting. The Hou. Mr. Buckley appeared for the defence. On the application of the police, defendant was remanded for a week. He was admitted to the same bail as befora, viz., himself in £500, and two sureties in j£2so each.
