AN EXPLANATION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST.
Sir— With respect to tho letter of Mr. Powell as to the tenders required by the Kniwarra Locnl Board, I beg to state thnt, instead of the tender of Mr. John Dooloy being iuforntnl, it was most regular and formal in every respect, and as the Board wore not bouud to accept the lowest or any tender, but were there to use their judgment in tho selection of the tenders, they chose the tender of him whom they knew as an efficient contractor, who had performed most satisfactorily previous contracts for the Board ; whose sureties were unexceptional, and who had in every wav complied with the requirements. The fact of public bodies using their discretion in electing the tenders, and not blindly taking the lowest in point of figures, would often save to the public a good deal of loss and inconvenience, as the records tf this provincial district will amply testify* ' • I nm, &c, W. T. Wyatt. Chairman of the Board. Kaiwarra, sth September. [This explanation is entirely satisfactory.— I Ed. E.P.]
