WANGANUI.
Firing on the IStii R.I. at Manawapotj. —It appears that the Royal Irish occupied two redoubts at "Manawupou, buk had recently evacuated one of them, which was shortly afterwards taken possession of by the Ilau Haus. Safely located in close proximity to their adversaries, they opened fire upon the redoubt occupied by the 18th, amongst whom the novelty of the unexpected manoeuvre created considerable amusement. Akhival op Tiioors from Patea. — The s.s. Waipara arrived from Patea on Saturday last, at 7 30 p.m., with a company of thelßth U.r., and it is said time more of the same regiment will shortly follow. We believe that the whole regiment, with flic exception of 50 men, will be removed from these districts about the end of Jauuary. Tub Govkkxok. — The maii to hand brings confirmatory intelligence to that received last month, of the early relief of >ir GiO -ge Grey from the Governorship of New Zealand. The facts of the case must by this time be known in Wellington. — Times.
