New Engine of War.
-It is stated by the Kpiujiie that a new engine of war is being tried by the officers of artillery at Mctidon. It consists of a sort of a cannon which can destroy an entire battalion at one fell swoop. It is asserted that it covers a space of a hundred square metres with ballets in a few seconds. This terrible engine has been named a fauchcusc (mowing machine.)
UH J EK W ANG AN I rr— IMPORTANT. The Upper Wnngaiiiii natives who went to llangatiki a few weeks ago, have just relumed. They were headed by Pehi, Topia, Dawsou, (mil other rebel cluets Their tangi over, Pehi, by appointment, met the King. Kewi, Keriopa, and others, and asked whether fisjhting should be continued, and if so. what assistance, if needed, they might expect. The Kine replied that he was for peace: there should be no more fighting with his consent, and Pehi was to convey that news to all parties concerned. The Wangunui natives, who had determined to go to Manawatu armed on the Sth December, will go unarmed, but they had decided upon that before Pehi's return. — Times.
