PRIZE-GIVING
In excellent weather the parents and children of the Sedgemere School gathered at the beautiful home of Mr R. M. Taiaroa yesterday for their usual end-of-the-year picnic. There was a very good attendance. Games and jace_ occupied the .attention most of the afternoon. At the afternoon tea adjournment, Mr W. F. Reese, chairman of the committee, thanked parents and friends for their continued interest in the school and for the way in which they had helped whenever called upon. The children's prizes were presented by Captain Jenkins, of the Salvation Army, while the Rev. H. L. Richards presented the prizes for the adults' races.

PATRIOTIC SOCIAL There was a very good .attendance at the social " held by the Sedgemere Patriotic Committee. In the main hall dancing took place to music played by Lambie's Band, while card players enjoyed themselves in the ante-room. ? Monte Carlos were won by Miss A. Maw and Mr D. Young, Miss S. Winchester and Mr P. Bennie. The most successful card players were Miss J. McLaughlin and Mrs R. Winchester, Messrs A. C. Greenwood and R. J. McLaughlin. A competition, the prize for which was donated by Mrs W. J. L. Chambers, was won by Mr R. Lambie.
The chairman (Mr A. Brown) in an interval in the proceedings, referred to the. bereavement suffered by Mr and Mrs -J. T. Parkin, with whom a vote of sympathy was carried.
