At Leeston
"LOVE FINDS ANDY HARDY"
Mickey Rooney gains fresh laurels by his confident, accomplished acting in "Love Comes to Andy Hardy," which will be screened at Leeston Theatre on Saturday. It is even better than the earlier Hardy family films, and this comment should be a sufficient commendation, for the adventures of this family have been followed with keen and enjoyable interest by theatre patrons. On this occasion, the son of the family, just at the age when he realises that girls can be attractive, becomes entangled with three of them, and his efforts to clear up his difficulties only serve to make matters worse. It certainly does not help him to return to a placid existence when he purchases a secondhand car, for this deal annoys his father, Judge Hardy. Lewis Stone, one of the most popular players in films to-day, is cast as the father, Fay Holden as the mother, and Cecilia Parker as Andy's sister. Judy Garland is given the role of Betty, the most lively of the girls and finally the peacemakjer among Andy's girl friends. This charming girl undoubtedly has a screen future. The comedy interest is paramount, naturally, but there are flashes of drama; and the whole production has the additional benefit of excellent direction, smart dialogue and good photography. It is the type of entertainment that will make a very wide appeal.
