WOMEN'S WAR SPIRIT

SERVICE IN BRITAIN

So great iis the part being played in Britain by women that even the Germans are forced to admit its magnificence. An illustrated article, entitled "What is the Englishwoman Dodng in Uniform?" fills two-thirds of a page of the Berlin Volkischer Beobachter.

"Not only can the English Government rely on military support from the female population," it says, "but it can also be completely assured on another point—that

the Englishwoman wall actively support the military will to victory at home as well as at the front. In the last war, woman was the chief bearer of the fighting spirit and of hate, and the same is true today."

Ironically, four German girls were among the first to enlist in ..the Auxiliary Territorial Service. As three of them have relatives in Germany, the British authorities suppressed their surnames. They are among hundreds of alien women anxious to do their bit.

Every day more and more women are taking part in the war effort in uniform, iin one way or another, are helping, even if it is ■ only by obeying the Government's advice about economy.

Among the fashions barred in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force are coloured nail polish and the "pageboy bob" and.''Ginger Rogers roll" in hair styles. However, make-up is allowed, including lipstick;" even on parade.
