MEETING OF TOWN BOARD
The monthly meeting of the Southbridge Town Board was held last night, at which there were present Cmrs. E. W. Hunt (chairman), M. H. Boyd, A. J. Beamsley, G. M. Doyle, W. G. Hill, W. J. Galvin and R. B. Willis.
Four tenders were receivjed for the lease of the pound paddock and that of Mr G. H. Healy for £5/10/----per annum for three years was accepted.
Saturday has again been fixed by the Minister of Labour as the day for the statutory weekly half-iholi-day.
Cleaning of water races and work in the channels would be gone on with as soon -as the dayman was available.
The hall had received a springcleaning. One or two small repairs were referred to the committee to deal with.
Mr W. J. Ludemann forwarded a cheque for £2/2/- as a mark of appreciation of the services rendered by the Fire Brigade at a fire in one of his paddocks last week. The money was accepted and will be used to renovate the hose.
Accounts amounting to £147/16/9 were passed for payment, including an instalment on the cost of sealing the main street £133/12/6. The credit balance was £404. SOCIAL TO SOLDIERS The Old Oak Druids' Lodge is to entertain Privates Watson, I alley, Campbell and Gray at a cimplimentary social next Thursday evening, to which all Druids are invited.
SCHOOL SWIMMING SPORTS The swimming sports of the District High School will be held at the Southbridge Bath next Thursday afternoon and parents and others interested are invited to attend. There will be a silver coin collection for the school sports fund.
TEAS FOR SOLDIERS The responsibility of providing morning and afternoon teas for soldiers in the hospitals for the week beginning on Tuesday, March 25, will be assumed by the Southbridge district, and Mrs Boyd, secretary of the local Red Cross Sub-centre, would bs glad to hear as soon as possible from ladies who are willing to 'help with the baking. The undertaking is a fairly large one but the ladies of Southbridge district can always be depended upon to rise to the occasion.
The sub-centre cordially invites those who have not become members to do so at the earliest opportunity. Present members are reminded that subscriptions for the current year are now due.
SOCIAL TO SOLDIERS This Tuesday evening in the Southbridge Town Hall, a complimentary social, will be tendered by the Patriotic Committee on behalf of the residents of the town and district to Privates A. Lilley, W. Campbell, C. Watson and G. Hutcheson. There will be cards and dancing .and music for the latter will be played by Lambie's Band. As on similar occasions in the past, a very large attendance of the public is looked for.
