SOLDIER HONOURED By the courtesy of the Lakeside sub-centre of the Red Cross Society, the Lakeside Patriotic Committee was given the opportunity for making a presentation to Gunner J. Findlay, at the social which was held on Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs Findlay had been for many years residents of the district and their son had been a pupil of Lakeside School. He is the second member of the family to join the forces, another son being already
overseas
The presentation was made by the president of the committee, Mr H. D. Marshall, who referred to the guest's long and favourable association with the district. He said that the residents of Lakeside would follow his career with the greatest interest, and wished him good luck and a safe return. On their behalf Mr Marshall presented Gunner Findlay with a fountain pen and a money belt.
Regt.-Sergt. C. Johnson, who was also present at the social, was given a very hearty welcome by Mr Marshall and congratulated on his promotion.
Mr A. Thian spoke on behalf of the Returned Soldiers' Association, remarking that the ex-servicemen were sure that the members of the Second Expeditionary Force would make just as great a name for themselves as the men of the 1914----18 war. The Association would look after their interests while overseas and would give them every help and encouragement now and after
the war.
Gunner Findlay, who acknowledged the gifts, received a hearty reception from those present and was given musical honours.
At a meeting held subsequently the committee decided to make the presentation to Private Campbell at the social at Southbridge this (Tuesday) evening.
