Springston
The annual meeting of the Springston Hall Company was held in the hall last evening, Mr P. V. Bailey, chairman of directors, presiding. The balance sheet, which showed a satisfactory balance, was read. It also disclosed several outstanding amounts which it was decided to collect as soon as possible. The following were elected as directors: Messrs P. V. Bailey, W. H. Tyson, J. Blakemore, F. E. Morrish, J. Mutton, J. S. Simpson and W. Mounce; advisory committee, Messrs J. McVinnie, D. Marshall, R. Wall, P. Riordan, H. S. Everest. A meeting of the directors and committee was held later. Mr Bailey was re-elected chairman, and Mr W. Mounce as secretary. Mr R. Wall, who had held this office for the past 22 years could not see his way to take the position again owing to ill-health. The chairman and Mr Simpson reported on their interview with the company's solicitor in regard to the company going into voluntary liquidation for the purpose of handing over the hall to the public. It was decided in future to meet quarterly, and the first Monday in each quarter was selected as the most suitable night. Sunshine Club Mrs O. T. Bailey presided over a good attendance of members of the Springston Sunshine Club. The roll call, "what you would do if you won a Tat's Ticket," was well responded to. Competitions resulted: Senior, Four date scones, Miss J. Ridden 1, Miss A. Tyson 2, Mrs O. T. Bailey 3. Juniors: Worked cushion cover, Miss H. Garland 1 and 3, Miss A. McLaren 2. Most successful players at the Sunshine and Basketball Clubs' "Flag 500" evening were Mr and . Mrs R. Tyson and Mr A. Leslie; consolation prizes were won by Messrs H. Jensen, W. Jones and L. Jensen. Women's Institute The monthly meeting of the Springston Women's Institute was held at the residence of Mrs A Hughes, when Mrs H. Hoskin presided over a very good attendance ; A motion of sympathy with Mrs G. Mcßean and family in their re- ■ cent bereavement was carried. The Roll Call, "Something thai ' exasperates me," was very well re- ' sponded to. A report on the re- . cent Federation meeting was giver by delegates. , tions and treasure hunts, successful competitors being Mesdames T. Memory, J. Blakemore and Miss M. Riordan. A fishing pond arranged by Mrs W. Hopkins was well patronised, the proceeds being donated to the returned soldiers hand-craft fund. Mrs Hoskin thanked Mrs Hughes for her kindness in lending her home and garden for the afternoon. The monthly competitions resulted: Large bloom, Mrs J. Blakemore 1, Mrs A. Powell 2, Mrs W. Leslie 3. Small bloom, Mrs J. Blakemore 1, Mrs W. Mounce 2, Mrs G. Smithers 3. Bowl of Ranunculi, Mrs T. Memory 1, Mrs A. Powell 2, Mrs W. Leslie 3. Cornish pasties, Mrs J. Mutton 1, Mrs J. Blakemore 2, Mrs W. Leslie 3. Handkerchief sachet, Mrs W. Leslie 1.
