SELWYN RIVER
SMALL APPROACH BRIDGE AT
ELLESMERE
There was further discussion at the meeting of the Ellesmere County Council yesterday, afternoon concerning what was to be done to the small approach bridge over the Selwyn at Ellesmere on the Spriiigs side of the | river. Cr R. T. McMillan asked how long it would be before there 'was a new main bridge over the river. The chairman (Cr J. Heslop): It is' not on the list yet. Cr McMillan suggested that it might be possible to raise the level of the little bridge by filling up on the decking, instead of raising up the decking of the bridge, as proposed. The engineer (Mr T. Moorhouse) j said that he had submitted alterna- i tive proposals to the Public Works Department including the suggestion made by Cr McMillan. | Cr McMillan agreed that some strengthening of the bridge would be necessary, but he thought that the method he had suggested would save expense. The dip at the little bridge was the lowest part of the road around to Chamberlain's, and he considered that if the decking were made strong enough and the road level raised, the road would be negotiable in flood time. . The chairman said that it would be necessary to raise the road around the river four or five feet to overcome the flood trouble. It was agreed to wait until the reply from the Public Works Department was received before deciding what to do with the bridge.
