WELCOME TO REV. AND MRS
WHITEHEAD
There was a large attendance in the Presbyterian Church Hall on Thursday afternoon, when the members of the P.W.M.U, held their closing meeting for the year, which took the form of a social to welcome the new minister, Rev. L. G. B. Whitehead, and Mrs Whitehead. Members' from St. Thomas's Anglican Guild and the Methodist Ladies' Guild were invited to attend. The president, Mrs Mackie, welcomed the visitors, introduced the Rev. and Mrs Whitehead to the gathering and asked the minister to preside.
After the opening hymn had been sung a posy was presented to Mrs Whitehead by little Rosalind Watson. A duet was sung by Mesdames W. N. Walker and R. J. Caldwell and a trio was sung by children from the Sunday School, Dorothy Walker, Ann Smith, and Marjory Washbourne.
A very interesting- and lengthy letter received from Mrs Adair, past president, and now of New York, telling of the trip to the United States and of her own work and that of Mr Adair, was read by the secretary.
The Rev. Whitehead gave a very impressive message, taking for his text Rev. 3, 116, his subject being: "Hold fast." After a-hymn and benediction, afternoon tea was dispensed by the members during which time all present had the privilege of meeting the Rev. and Mrs Whitehead. A pianoforte solo was played by Mrs A. J. Sheat. Mrs N. J. Brown spoke on behalf of the Anglican Guild and Miss C. Sheat for the Methodist Ladies' Guild.
On behalf of the president, the minister thanked the visitors for their attendance and commented on the friendly spirit prevailing between the sister guilds. He urged that such gatherings should be continued.
